five question friday

I was over at canadianbloggergirls blog and she has given the five question friday a go. As you know I like the meme thing as I am as lazy a blogger as I am at everything else. And, I love how everyone answers these question thingy's so differently.

This weeks 5 questions are:

1. How close to your childhood dreams is your life now?

Close, I always wanted to be married and have children,so those boxes are ticked. I finished school in 1979. Careers for girls weren't a given back then, and unless your parents were academics, it was just assumed that you wouldn't go to uni. I had the impression from school and life at that time that jobs for women were only until you had kids and then went back to work to "help" save money to put in a pool or buy a new car.The cost of living rises from the late 80's changed that attitude.I wanted to be a hairdresser and did some training but became a nurse a couple of years later.I seem to remember wanting to be a teacher when I was about 10.I liked the idea of being bossy.

2. What is one must have item for the summer?

A/C............A/C.................A/C
I would die without it I'm sure. I'm ok till the humidity hits or its over 32 degrees celcius, then I flick the switch. Hubby switches it off to save dollars.I'm sure people have killed for less. When I was a kid we had one desk fan between 5 of us and my dad turned it off to save electricity,we prayed for the southerly buster to cool us down while we tried to sleep, constantly turning the pillow for the brief cool touch on our faces.

3. Do you have your kids stay up on school stuff during summer vacation? (Or, if you don't have kiddos, did your parents make you keep up on school stuff during summer?)

no school holidays were for fun, though I did keep them reading, but that was for enjoyment as well as practice.

When I was a kid,my dad left a list of chores to be done,I don't think he liked us leaving the house.

4. Do you can or freeze fresh produce?
no, too lazy, though once I canned peaches, made plum jam and have used the "ezysauce" to make tomato relish.I don't know what came over me.

5. Do you get ready for the day first thing in the morning?

For what? Unless I'm going somewhere, which is pretty much shopping once a week, nope, but I do get out of my PJ"s eventually.

  1. See, I knew I liked you! I love staying in my pj's. This morning I forgot to take out the trash and ran out to meet the guys in my jammies... I totally forgot I was in them till I looked down and realized I was wearing too short shorts an not enough top!!!! The guys were just smiling and were all, "we can help!!!"

Oh well, the trash is out so I'm happy!!!

  2. How comforting. Someone who is not a high achiever in everything they do. I certainly agree about the air conditioning.

  4. I enjoyed learning more about you. I agree about the a/c - I'm a hot momma!

I can't live up to my childhood dreams because I wanted to be a bird when I grew up.

  5. There are rare days, when I have no where to go.

Then I get up, take a shower and get back into clean pjs.

  7. Good post. I remember when I did go to school because it was raining that day. I was told I could never become a musician and that really bothered me. Years later I wrote the music for a play the school was putting on and I met those some of those teachers again - felt pretty good to be teaching the students how to play my music and I told the teachers they should never tell a student that they can't learn and become good at something.

  8. I love the Wizard of Oz cartoon. I spent a year in Australia when I was 20, thought the heat was going to kill me. Definitely need to have AC there.

  9. I loved reading your answers.

When I spend the day at home (which isn't too rare) I stay in my pajamas!!! They're the most comfortable. I'll put on a bra if we're expecting company though.

  15. These are always fun!
I'm living one of my childhood dreams as I'm a comic/writer.
The one thing in the summer I can't live without is WATER!!! I'm always thirsty!
In the summer my parents never made us do schoolwork
I don't can or freeze anything. I usually eat all my groceries right away.
I'm pretty regimented in that I get up, work out, and then I'm sweaty so I need a shower so at that point I might as well get ready!

    Fun post!
